Family Day Care
Sandy Katz, MSED, Director, Early Childhood Programs
JCCA has been a
pioneer in providing Family Child Care for working families since the 1950s. It
is the only Jewish agency providing Family Child Care services in New York. JCCA's Family Child
Care Program is a network of family homes located throughout areas of Brooklyn Queens and Staten
Island where licensed
providers care for infants and young children, who grow and learn in a
nurturing environment with flexible hours. Smaller than a Center based child care center, more structured than a babysitter, Family Child
Care is often the perfect child care solution.
Scholarships and government-subsidized slots may be
available, based on need.
Enrollment age: 6 weeks to 5 years.
Hours: 8:00 a.m - 6:00 p.m., or based on specific scheduling needs.
What is Family Day Care?
It is a licensed,
home-based, safe, nurturing family environment where children can develop and
learn through the support of
experienced, nurturing child care providers.
In a Family Child
Care home the daily schedule encourages individualized and creative learning
through play and planned learning activities, including art, music and literacy. Children enjoy nutritious homemade meals and have an
opportunity to be part of Jewish holiday celebrations and traditions.
All Family Child Care
Providers who are part of our
Network are licensed by the Department of
Health and supported by professionally trained JCCA staff. Providers
participate in ongoing educational workshops on child development, health and
safety and curriculum development.
Our
JCCA staff provides developmental screenings for children and support families
when making referrals for evaluations, if necessary. The JCCA staff provides
information for resources and support to families in need.
We offer ongoing opportunities for parent groups and individual parent
meetings.
Career Opportunity
Family Child Care
is a great opportunity for individuals who enjoy working with children to
establish a small, home-based business to care for them.
JCCA providers
get professional training and support from experts and work with staff members
who speak the same language. JCCA can help with:
- · Obtaining your license.
- · Adapting your home to be suitable for Family Child Care.
- · Health and Safety training.
- · Department of Health applications.
- · Purchasing equipment and toys.
