Rabbi Ilan Ginian, MSW, Coordinator
The Kew Gardens Hills Youth Center is an afterschool program for Orthodox male teens and young adults, 14-19 years of age. Its purpose is to create a “safe space” for youth to relax, mix with peers, share concerns, and receive support. Center staff includes an experienced rabbi/social worker, an outreach worker, a fitness specialist, and volunteers who serve as mentors and role models.
The Kew Gardens Hills Youth Center is sponsored by the Jewish Child Care Association (JCCA). The program was created through partnerships with local rabbis, lay leaders, Yeshiva principals, teachers, and the Queens Jewish Community Council. While the center is open to all, the programming is explicitly designed to support and provide a welcoming, kosher setting for youth from the Bukharian, Israeli, and Ashkenazi Orthodox communities.
The Center’s hours are weekday and Sunday evenings, from 6-11 PM.* Services offered by the program include career and college guidance, job coaching, GED and SAT preparation, organized sports, recreational outings, internships, health and substance abuse education, and counseling. Staff also reach out to youth on the streets to engage them in positive, constructive activities.
*Summer hours: 3-11 PM, Tue-Thu
