THE COTTAGE SCHOOLS

Most children come to the Cottage Schools because they have been neglected, abused, and traumatized.

Every facet of Cottage School life is focused on helping children heal their traumas. With the support of their social workers, milieu counselors, and our highly trained clinical staff, children attend school, receive counseling, join in therapeutic recreational activities, participate in vocational programming, and hold part-time jobs or internships as they move toward permanency and return to the community.

The 150-acre campus includes Pleasantville Cottage School, Edenwald Center, Pleasantville START and Gateways that provide a highly supervised therapeutic environment for 325 boys and girls.

Steveon Williams
“Going to PCS [Pleasantville Cottage School] williamsat the age of 11 was the first “grown-up” decision I made. I was tired of going home to alcoholic parents and getting in fights. I had already gotten kicked out of several schools and felt like things were about to blow at the school I was attending. But something caught my interest: A number of kids were going away to school upstate. I gave it some thought and talked to my counselor.”
