Working Together in the Bukharian Jewish Community to Help At-Risk Youth and Strengthen Families
Through Partners in Caring, three major components of the Jewish community join forces to create a whole greater than the sum of its parts. UJA-Federation of New York, Jewish Child Care Association and six community-based Bukharian Jewish grassroots organizations generate a synergy that creates a strong and vibrant kehillah.
Partners in Caring is the gateway through which JCCA brings its services and expertise to a variety of naturally occurring settings in the Bukharian Jewish community. Partners in Caring will focus and enhance the capacity of organizations, synagogues and schools in the Bukharian Jewish community to recognize and meet the needs of their constituencies.
Target areas of the collaboration:
Working directly with children and at-risk youth who are dropping out of school, in trouble with the law, abusing drugs and alcohol, struggling to integrate and are lacking in role models and direction
Strengthening families by offering premarital counseling and consultation to sustain healthy relationships between spouses
Assisting parents of at-risk youth with behavioral issues and helping them to support their children’s development and adjustment
Helping professionals and rabbis work with at-risk youth and their families
